Frequently Asked Questions
How much of my gift goes directly to the program or student I want to support?

With the exception of a small percentage charged by our credit card processor, each donation given towards La Jornada goes directly to the project. Gifts given in the name of a specific student do not go directly to that student but are administrated on their behalf by La Jornada.

How is my gift used?

Each donation goes towards covering the education and living expenses of our students. Funds for our students' education are distributed according to the cost of each student's particular field of study. Donation are also used to cover the costs of operating the organization, including the wages of our staff, the maintenance of our property and general administration.

Does my gift qualify as a tax deduction?

La Jornada Ministries Inc. is a registered charity so gifts are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. It is recommended that you consult your tax advisor regarding the exact deductibility of gifts to La Jornada. When you give an eligible gift, we will mail or email you a receipt you can use for income tax purposes.

When can I expect to receive the tax receipt for my donation to La Jornada?

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines state tax-deductible gifts must be postmarked on or before December 31 of any given year to qualify for a tax-deductible receipt for that year. Our office policy with respect to receipting multiple and/or recurring paid gifts is to issue one receipt per calendar year. This reduces administrative costs and assists our donors by eliminating the need to keep track of multiple receipts. A receipt for your total yearly gift will be forwarded to you in February of the following year.

What giving platforms are used by La Jornada?

La Jornada uses both PayPal and CanadaHelps to process donations. Both platforms are well recognized by Revenue Canada. PayPal accepts only one-time gifts, while CanadaHelps also allows a donor to sign up to give monthly. PayPal does not charge a processing fee, which is why we've made that option available for special gifts. CanadaHelps charges a small fee for processing donations.
